Due to Corona virus Pandemic the makers of Laxmii announced the release on Disney+Hotstar in the eve of Diwali. I was very excited to see the Akshay Kumar starrer flick. Finally the film released on Aug 14, 2020 and now streaming on the Disney+Hotstar. I watched the movie last evening and below are my views regarding the movie "Laxmii".
This is Raghav Lawrence's first bollywood film as a director. The movie is an official remake of his tamil blockbuster Muni 2:Kanchana. Farhad Samji who previously penned down the dialogues of Singham, Baaghi 3 and Street dancer 3D penned down the story of the movie. Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani, Ashwini Kalasekar, Ayesha Raza, Manu Rishi Chadha, Sharad Kelkar and Rajesh Sharma presented it on screen.
The story revolves around Asif (Akshay Kumar) and Rashmi (Kiara). Asif and Rashmi got married. Due to interfaith marriage Rashmi's family disowns her. But after few years things changed and Rashmi's mother invited them on 25th anniversary. Things take turn When Asif who does not believe in ghosts, spirits possessed by a transgender spirit seeking for revenge. The spirit has a purpose which is highly emotional and you will only know by watching the film.

Akshay Kumar tries to elevate the film on the basis of his acting, but his attempt failed. Kiara Advani had nothing to do except a few scenes and beautiful looks. The pairing of Akshay and Kiara failed as Akshay seems to overaged. Rajesh Sharma, Manu Rishi Chadha, Ashwini Kalsekar, Ayesha Raza are excellent actors, but they also disappointed due to the weak screenplay and overacting. Sharad Kelkar came on screen for a mere 15 minutes. But in those 15 minutes, Sharad nailed his character. In his character he will keep the audience engaged with his performance, his dialogue delivery and perfect timing. Though he was not shown in the film trailer, but he proved to be a surprise package for this film. His 15-minute cameo in the film overshadowed Akshay Kumar.
There have been many horror-comedy in Bollywood, 'Laxmii' is the latest film from the genre, but it disappoints.'Laxmii' has comedy-horror as well as emotions and messages, but the problem is that they have all been forcefully added to the movie without situations. It seems that someone is trying to make you laugh without creating an atmosphere, this effort seems meaningless and most of 'Laxmii' is a victim of this. If you want to enjoy horror films, then you should not even talk about much logic, but in 'Laxmii' the dose of entertainment is missing. The first half of the film is disappointing. Comedy is given importance in this part. In the final half, the film gets a little life when the story of Laxmii comes, but by then it is too late.
Unnecesaary hindu-muslim angle, mockery of hindu cultures and anything which connected with hindus is shown in a bad light in the film which looks like the film just made to spread the anti-hindu propoganda. I don't have problem if Bollywood is criticizing sterotypes of Hindus but should they do the same for the stereotype present in other religions! I don't like this partiality if Bollywood want to criticize, they should criticize all the stereotype present in our society not in religion. I respect every religion but do not like this type of hate mongering of Bollywood.
Raghav Lawrence as the director has introduced the story in a much more dramatic way than the original. The music of the film is average. The film failed mostly for weak screenplay and modification to the original story.
The film's casting and camerawork are its strong sides. At the same time, the negative aspect of the film is its dialogue, screenplay, drama and poor direction.
The thrill of the film does not even match to Kanchana. The pace of the movie lose from beginning. This is probably the worst content that has come on Disney+Hotstar after Sadak2. I would suggest It's better to watch Kanchana again.
